THROUGH THE DOORWAY (AND WHAT’S ON THE OTHER SIDE)
Not long ago, I stumbled across an AI-generated video platform called ‘Maximal Nostalgia’ that focused on short, emotional and nostalgic videos about the 1980’s. The videos, featuring wonderfully detailed recreations of a day or night out back then, tug at my heartstrings every time I see one of them. As in, I see myself in every one! That was MY time in the sun!
Then I read an article about how the videos COULD lead to people of my generation committing suicide – as if the videos and their ‘maybe it’s time you came back’ themes could cause people to take their own lives, thinking those days were awaiting them, just on the other side of some veil.
I think that idea is a bit of a reach…
But the videos were so enchanting I decided to write a book about them. Yeah, that’s what writers do – we write shit.
And so, I wrote something called Thrugate, a relatively short (about 300 pages) novel about the concept of ‘going back.’ The first draft is done and it’s in the hands of my editor for Phase One… Well, here we go… Check out the link to the Maximal Nostalgia videos below.
